It happened Tuesday morning in the area of Memorial Drive and Deerfoot Trail.
Investigators say they believe the following occurred:
Just before 9 a.m., a 34-year-old man in a 2020 Ford Transit was headed west on Memorial when he left the roadway and struck a concrete barrier;
The Ford rolled down onto Deerfoot, and the driver was ejected onto the road;
An 81-year-old man and an 80-year-old man in a 2017 Honda Accord were headed north on Deerfoot when that vehicle was struck by the Ford and also rolled;
A 20-year-old man in a 2025 GMC Sierra, also headed north on Deerfoot, struck the driver of the Ford; and
The driver of a 2022 Ram towing a utility trailer also struck the Ford while headed north of Deerfoot.
Multiple people were injured in the chain-reaction crash:
The driver of the Ford was taken to hospital in life-threatening condition but has since been upgraded to serious but stable condition.
The driver and passenger of the Honda were taken to hospital in serious but non-life-threatening condition.
While police believe they know what happened, they continue to investigate why it happened.
