Witnesses sought after Tuesday morning crash in northeast Calgary sends three people to hospital

Police shut down Deerfoot Trail in northeast Calgary on July 15, 2025, following a multi-vehicle crash. (Supplied/City of Calgary) Police are seeking witnesses following a multi-vehicle crash in northeast Calgary that resulted in serious injuries. It happened Tuesday morning in the area of Memorial Drive and Deerfoot Trail. Investigators say they believe the following occurred: Just before 9 a.m., a 34-year-old man in a 2020 Ford Transit was headed west on Memorial when he left the roadway and struck a concrete barrier; The Ford rolled down onto Deerfoot, and the driver was ejected onto the road; An 81-year-old man and an 80-year-old man in a 2017 Honda Accord were headed north on Deerfoot when that vehicle was struck by the Ford and also rolled; A 20-year-old man in a 2025 GMC Sierra, also headed north on Deerfoot, struck the driver of the Ford; and The driver of a 2022 Ram towing a utility trailer also struck the Ford while headed north of Deerfoot. Multiple people were injured in the chain-reaction crash: The driver of the Ford was taken to hospital in life-threatening condition but has since been upgraded to serious but stable condition. The driver and passenger of the Honda were taken to hospital in serious but non-life-threatening condition. While police believe they know what happened, they continue to investigate why it happened. Investigators are looking at whether excessive speed, drugs and/or alcohol were factors. And they're turning to the public for help: Anyone who has information about, or dash-cam footage of, Tuesday morning's crash is asked to call police at 403-266-1234.
